Isle of Palms Welcomes Spoleto Festival 2008

BY: Dave & Darcy Creaturo
With the beginning of the 2008 Spoleto Festival coming upon us soon, events are already being announced. The festival runs from May 23 through June 8. The Spoleto festival is listed as one of the Southeast Tourism Society's top twenty events. There are events all around the Charleston SC area. Spoleto started in 1977 and it brings artists, performers, chorus, symphony's and other renowned artists from all over the continents to the area. There are so many events going on during this festival it will be hard to do everything. Here is a list of Spoleto events so you can pick and choose the events that interest you.

One of my favorite events is the Isle Of Palms, the Spoleto Sand Sculpting competition. Whether your a competitor or a spectator, everyone likes a day at the beach. The event is scheduled for May 31 on Front Beach. Competitors can enter in the following divisions; Children (ages 14 and under), Young Adult (ages 15-19), (at least one adult and one child) and Adult (ages 20 and older). The competition begins at 9 a.m. The award ceremony for the children’s division is at 10:30 a.m. For all other divisions it will take place at 1 p.m. This is a free event. Individual and team entries are permitted. Teams are limited to four people. The first 250 to register are guaranteed a free T-shirt; sizes are subject to availability. Registration the day of the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. or register at the Isle of Palms Recreation Department.
